Blackthorn, the tree of Witches & Magick. For countless centuries the Blackthorn has been held sacred to the Witches. From its sinister reputation, powerful energy and for many it is representation of the dark side of witchcraft and magick. It is a sacred tree to the Crone aspect of the Goddess, and is associated with the Waning and Dark Moon. Blackthorn is also known as keeper of dark secrets and forbidden knowledge and its said if you offer blood to the Tree by pricking your finger on the spike of a Blackthorn in return it will share these secrets with the Witch whom bleeds. While within the celtic lands the Blackthorn is also known as a tree of the Fae, offering passage to there lands.
 
Blackthorn is traditionally used in the creation of binding/blasting rod, a wand carved from solid Blackthorn adorned with the spikes upon the end its said to be used to cause harm and misfortune to its target cursing and hexing.
 
The sharp thorns are traditionally used by Witches to pierce poppets in their curse workings, offten called the ‘pins of slumber’. In Cornish & South Devon folklore Witches were said to carry Blackthorn Spikes, with which they caused much local mischief. During the time of trials Witches and heretics were often burned on Blackthorn pyres. And it's said the Devil himself would prick his follower’s fingers with the thorn of a Blackthorn tree and from this exchange of blood and Thorn is born a witch...
