Beltane is the festival of life, fertility, the coming of summer and the divine masculine, the name beltane roughly translates to "the fires of Bel" and is strongly linked to be the holiday of Belenus. Belenus is the celtic god who is associated with pastoralism, fire and purification. He is heavily associated with the sun and sacred fires however many people have a diverse outlook on him, with some seeing him as a sun god and others claiming that the symbols of the sun and fire are linked to him however not an embodiment of him. During the celtic festival two bonfires where erected and ignited to Belenus one to cleanse and purify your family, increasing their fertility. While the other was to purify and increase fertility of the land and live stock. Today Witches and Pagans across the world will be joining the May pole dances, lighting the Sacred bonfires and performing fertility rites.
While others believe today is the day where the goddess of spring and the god of summer converg at this half way point between seasons, in this meeting point they gift the land and people with fertility and blessings of life.
No matter your beliefs come today and welcome in the flowers of May! Welcome in the Gods and Goddess back to the lands of spring. And take in the gifts of life!
